Spray Squad is a community-driven safety signage system that brings graffiti artists, local authorities, and urban explorers together.

Developed through field research in Guangzhou, the project explores how graffiti artists’ familiarity with abandoned urban spaces can help address the lack of safety signage in these areas. In exchange for legal spaces to create their work, artists contribute warning signs that guide urban explorers away from potential hazards. The system combines a digital platform for coordination and information sharing with a modular, 3D-printed toolkit designed around artists’ working habits.

By turning local knowledge and creative expression into a public resource, Spray Squad offers a new approach to urban safety and community collaboration.
